Information We Collect
When you use Butterbook, we may collect:

- •Your recipes, cookbook titles, notes, photos, and other content you choose to upload.
- •Photos, screenshots, recipe links, and pasted text you submit to import or create a recipe, which we process with AI to build the recipe and a finished-dish image.
- •Order details for printed cookbooks, including the shipping name, address, and phone number you provide at checkout.
- •Payment information processed securely through our third-party payment providers. Butterbook does not store your full payment details.
- •Device information such as browser type, operating system, and app usage information to improve our services.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- •Create and manage your account.
- •Store and organize your digital cookbooks.
- •Import recipes from photos, screenshots, links, and pasted text, and generate accompanying food images.
- •Process cookbook printing orders and ship them to you.
- •Process subscription payments.
- •Improve Butterbook and develop new features.
- •Respond to customer support requests.
- •Communicate important updates about your account.
- •Meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
Recipe Imports and AI Processing
When you import a recipe, the photo, screenshot, link, or text you provide is sent to the AI services that power Butterbook so we can read the recipe, organize the ingredients and steps, and create an image of the finished dish.
This content is processed only to provide the feature you asked for. We do not use your recipes, photos, or imported content to train AI models.
Your Content
You retain ownership of the recipes, photographs, and other original content you upload.
By uploading content to Butterbook, you grant us a limited license to store, display, process, and print your content solely for the purpose of providing Butterbook's services.
We do not claim ownership of your recipes.
Sharing Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only with the service providers who help us operate Butterbook, and only as needed to run the service:
- •Base44, which hosts Butterbook's accounts, database, file storage, and AI services.
- •Base44 Payments (powered by Wix), which processes subscription and cookbook payments.
- •Lulu, our print-on-demand partner, which prints and ships physical cookbooks using the shipping details you provide at checkout.
- •Delivery carriers that deliver printed cookbooks to you.
These providers are only given the information they need to perform their part of the service.
Cookies and Analytics
Butterbook uses cookies and similar storage that are needed for the app to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your device's free trial.
We also collect basic usage information, such as pages viewed and features used, to understand how Butterbook is used and to improve it. We do not use this information to track you across other websites or to show you third-party advertising.
Data Retention
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your recipes, cookbooks, photos, and lists are removed from our active systems within 30 days.
We retain order and payment records for as long as we're required to for tax, accounting, and legal purposes, and we may keep limited records where needed to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
Data Security
We use commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your Privacy Rights
You can access and update your account details inside Butterbook, and you can delete your account at any time from your Account page. You may also contact us to request a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
If you live in California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with its own privacy laws, you may have additional rights over your personal information, including the right to object to certain processing. We honor these requests regardless of where you live, and we never sell personal information.
Deleting Your Account
You may delete your account at any time from your Account page, or by emailing us using the address below. Once your account is deleted, your uploaded content will be removed from our active systems, except where we are legally required to retain certain information.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription or an in-progress print order on its own. Contact us if you need help with either.
Children's Privacy
Butterbook is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of Butterbook after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
